WHAT'S THE NEW GREEN IN 2008?

Launch of ecoNEW® service helps consumers recycle electronics for cash

STERLING, VA, January 7, 2008 --/WORLD-WIRE/--
N.E.W. Customer Service Companies, Inc. (NEW), the nation’s leading provider of extended service plans and buyer protection programs for consumer products, today announced the launch of ecoNEW®—a new trade-in and recycling service that helps consumers get rid of their older, unwanted electronics while at the same time providing them with an easy-to-use, environmental solution for e-waste recycling. “There is a real need in the marketplace to give consumers ways to safely and responsibly dispose of consumer electronics,” said Tony Nader, president and CEO of NEW. “Given our involvement in the service plan industry, it was a natural fit to bring a solution to market that would safely reduce e-waste and open up channels for parts.”

EcoNEW is being offered to retailers as a value-add customer care solution, making NEW the first of its industry to offer a green service in its product and service portfolio.

“Through the launch of ecoNEW, retailers will be able to bring their customers an eco-friendly disposal solution that will turn many of their unwanted consumer electronics into cash. And the cash consumers get for their electronics is in the form of a retail branded gift card—increasing footsteps and driving loyalty to the retailer,” added Nader.

EcoNEW delivers real value to retailers and their customers by:

  • Enhancing the retailer’s image as an environmentally friendly corporate citizen
  • Generating additional revenue for retailers with virtually no effort or cost

  • Giving customers trade-in value for their electronics
  • Driving customers back to the retailer to purchase more products with retail branded gift cards
Recycling unwanted electronics safely EcoNEW provides the following benefits:
    1) Easy-to-use online platform – Consumers will find this online solution easy to use. They simply enter information about their electronic item. EcoNEW places a trade-in value on the product and provides the consumer with a prepaid shipping return label to ship the item in for verification.

    2) A win-win for both retailer and consumer – Once NEW confirms receipt and audits the item, a gift card specific to the retailer for the trade-in value is sent to the consumer for use however he or she chooses. Please note that some items have no trade-in value and based on the retailer’s preference can be processed as recycled items.

    3) Zero tolerance landfill/no export guarantee – Electronic equipment received will either be reconditioned or recycled. Some items may be sold into the secondary or used marketplace in whole machine form or disassembled and sold off as usable service parts. Recycled equipment and parts will then be broken down into raw material and used to produce new materials.
To learn more about how ecoNEW will help the environment, consumers and retailers stop by the NEW Booth #8853 LVCC Central at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Jan. 7-10.
