FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CO-DIRECTORS SELECTED FOR 2010 WORLD DEVELOPMENT REPORT ON CLIMATE CHANGE
WASHINGTON D.C. April 18, 2008 --/WORLD-WIRE/-- Rosina M. Bierbaum, currently professor and Dean at the University of Michigan and Marianne Fay, Lead Economist at the World Bank, have been chosen to co-lead the 2010 World Development Report (WDR) on climate change and developing countries, the World Bank announced today.
Dr. Bierbaum is professor and dean of the School of Natural Resources and Environment (SNRE) at the University of Michigan. She has led four U.S. delegations to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and has a long record of public service in the executive and legislative branches of the federal government working on climate change and environment issues. Ms Fay, who served most recently as Lead Economist in the World Bank’s Europe and Central Asia Region, has worked on several previous WDRs, including the 2000 WDR titled ‘Entering the 21st Century’, and the 1994 WDR on ‘Infrastructure for Development’. Covering a different topic every year, each WDR aims to consolidate existing knowledge on the chosen development area and stimulate debate on new directions for development policy. The 2010 WDR will evaluate how climate change is affecting developing countries. The Report will help identify adaptation strategies and mitigation prospects in developing countries, and outline policy options that can help developing countries deal with risks and seize opportunities. The 2010 WDR is a collaborative effort of the World Bank’s Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC) and the Sustainable Development Network (SDN). It will be developed through consultations with the Bank’s regions and networks, governments, leading academics, private sector and non-governmental organizations, and international development agencies. The report is scheduled to be published in the fall of 2009. To learn more about past WDRs, visit: http://econ.worldbank.org/wdr.
