Exciting Variety of Films at BLUE Ocean Film Festival

International Ocean Film Event in Monterey August 24-29

Blue MONTEREY, CA, July 30, 2010 --/WORLD-WIRE/-- BLUE Ocean Film Festival, presented by Monterey Bay Aquarium August 24-29 in Monterey, CA, is a one-of-a-kind film industry and community event bringing together films, filmmakers and leaders in ocean research and conservation.

More than 85 ocean-related films in 19 categories present a wide variety of themes and formats. Attendees will view full-length feature films, documentaries and short films that provide special focus on our ocean world.

Broadcast films including Big Sur: Wild California, Humpbacks from Fire to Ice, Into the Dragon's Lair, Orca Killing School and others will be presented on large screens in theater settings. Films selected for Ocean Exploration and Adventure include Atlantic Crossing: A Robot's Daring Mission, Jean-Michel Cousteau Ocean Adventures: America's Underwater Treasures, Life: Creatures of the Deep, Mysteries of the Shark Coast and The Changing Sea and One Ocean: Mysteries of the Deep.

Ocean Issues and Conservation category finalists include Bag It, Global Focus VIII: the New Environmentalist, Strange Days on Planet Earth: Dirty Secrets, South Pacific: Fragile Paradise and The End of the Line. Screening for honors in Ocean Sports category are Aspiring Depths, Drop Zone Tahiti and The Ultimate Wave Tahiti. Theatrical releases include Disneynature Oceans, At the Edge of the World, Beneath the Blue, Confessions of an Eco Warrior and Under the Sea 3-D.

These and more of the world's best ocean films will be screened at five Monterey Peninsula theaters. A film industry conference and a conservation summit round out the robust array of activities and events. BLUE will host photography exhibits, seminars, business of filmmaking panels and presentations, pitching sessions, film and photography equipment demos, VIP parties and networking events.

Featured guests include Julie Packard, Sylvia Earle, Jean-Michel Cousteau, David Doubilet, Don Haun, Howard Hall, Bob Talbot, Greg Stone and other film and environmental ocean leaders. A featured forum "Gulf Oil Spill: Tragedy or Turning Point?" will be hosted by Carl Safina.
