About the event

Justice for J6″ demonstration on Saturday will be comprised of pro-Trump protestors who oppose the prosecution of those who assaulted the Capitol on January 6.

First, some blamed the deadly Jan. 6 attack at the U.S. Capitol on left-wing Antifa antagonists, a theory quickly debunked. Then came comparisons of the rioters to peaceful protesters or even tourists.

Now, allies of former President Donald Trump are calling those charged in the Capitol riot “political prisoners,” a stunning effort to revise the narrative of that deadly day.

The brazen rhetoric ahead of a rally planned for Saturday at the Capitol is the latest attempt to explain away the horrific assault and obscure what played out for all the world to see: rioters loyal to the then-president storming the building, battling police and trying to stop Congress from certifying the election of Democrat Joe Biden.

The Justice for J6 rally, planned for this Saturday, September 18, is being coordinated by spurned former Trump campaign operative Matt Braynard and his Look Ahead America organization. Organizers are calling for the Justice Department to drop charges against over 570 people who were allegedly involved in the January 6 riot at the Capitol — people Braynard has referred to as “political prisoners” and “nonviolent protesters” despite the five deaths and multiple injuries that resulted from the January 6 riots.

Republican politicians, including House Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, Paul Gosar and Louie Gohmert have previously backed calls to support the people charged in connection with the Jan. 6 riots.

The U.S. Capitol Police is erecting a temporary fence around the Capitol in anticipation of a planned rally on September 18 by far-right groups defending January 6 rioters.

Washington, DC, is bracing for another potential weekend of violence from right-wing Trump supporters, this time as they protest charges against the January 6 Capitol riot.

The majority of those charged for participating in the January 6 attack have not yet reached sentencing, though a recent sentencing memo from federal prosecutors said that most participants charged should anticipate jail time. Most are being permitted to await trial at home.
