About KDLT-TV

KDLT is the NBC affiliate in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, serving eastern South Dakota, southwestern Minnesota, Northwestern Iowa, and Nebraska. KDLT started broadcasting from Mitchell, South Dakota as KORN-TV on channel 5, an ABC affiliate. Originally, the station’s phone number was meant to honor the Mitchell Corn Palace.

The station changed its call letters to KXON-TV in 1972. When Dakota and Broadcasting purchased KXON in 1982, it changed its call letters to KDLT. In the mid-80s, Dakota and Broadcasting eventually sold KDLT to Heritage Broadcasting. Since 1982, KDLT and another station in the market switched affiliations, making KDLT an NBC affiliate. Later, KDLT moved its main studio to Sioux Falls in August of 1987. In 1994, Red River Broadcast Co., LLC purchased KDLT and moved the city of license to Sioux Falls, SD on September 8, 1998. The station began broadcasting on channel 46 from a new 2000 foot tower in Rowena, SD.

KDLT News acquired by Grey News

Gray’s investment in South Dakota continues with this transaction. KSFY-TV moved to a new, technologically advanced facility in downtown Sioux Falls in the fall of 2016, which includes additional space for a second television station’s local news and operations. Gray launched a remodeled and expanded building at the foot of the Black Hills in Rapid City this spring to provide state-of-the-art technology to its ABC and Fox affiliates in that market, KOTA-TV, and KEVN-LP.

Regulatory and other approvals are pending for the acquisition of KDLT-TV. Gray anticipates that the acquisition will be free cash flow accretive immediately and close in the second quarter or third quarter of 2018. Gray intends to finance the transaction with cash on hand.
