Chadwick Boseman’s posted on his Instagram account that he had learned in 2016 that he had Stage 3 colon cancer, which slowly progressed to Stage 4 by 2020. It is said that he took his last breath with his family and his wife at home. A statement said, “A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much,” the statement said. “From ‘Marshall’ to ‘Da 5 Bloods,’ August Wilson’s ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy.”

Brian Helgeland, who gave Chadwick his first film, said, “It’s the way he carries himself, his stillness, you just have that feeling that you’re around a strong person,” he further added by saying. “There’s a scene in the movie where Robinson’s teammate, Pee Wee Reese, puts his arm around him as a kind of show of solidarity. But Chad flips it on its head. He plays it like, ‘I’m doing fine, I’m tough as nails, but go ahead and put your arm around me if it makes you feel better.’ I think that’s who Chad is as a person.”
