Press Release Templates

Free, practical press release templates you can copy, fill in and submit through World Wire.

A good press release follows a familiar shape that journalists and editors can scan in seconds. The templates below give you that shape for four of the most common announcements. Copy the one you need, replace everything in [square brackets], and remove any sections that do not apply. Before you submit, check your draft against our Editorial Guidelines.

The anatomy of a press release

  1. Headline — the news in one clear line. Lead with the most important fact and keep it under about 100 characters.
  2. Subheadline — an optional second line that adds a key detail, such as a figure, benefit or partner name.
  3. Dateline — the city and date the news is issued, placed at the very start of the first paragraph.
  4. Lead paragraph — who, what, when, where and why, in two or three sentences. If a reader stops here, they should still have the story.
  5. Body — the supporting detail: context, features, numbers and background, in short paragraphs with the most important points first.
  6. Quote — a named person explaining why the news matters. It should add opinion or perspective, not repeat the facts.
  7. Boilerplate — a short, standard "About [Company]" paragraph you can reuse in every release.
  8. Media contact — name, organisation, email, phone and website for journalists who want to follow up.

Keep it tight: aim for 400 to 600 words, include no more than 3 links in the body, and write in the third person.
