Charlie Baker is an American businessman and politician who currently serves as the 72nd Governor of Massachusetts. He was born on November 13, 1956, in Elmira, New York, and grew up in Needham, Massachusetts. He graduated from Harvard University with a degree in English and later attended the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

After college, Baker began his career in the healthcare industry, working for companies such as Healthsource and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. He was appointed Secretary of Health and Human Services under Massachusetts Governor William Weld in 1992 and later served as the Secretary of Administration and Finance under Governor Paul Cellucci.

In 2010, Baker ran for Governor of Massachusetts as a Republican but lost to incumbent Governor Deval Patrick. He ran again in 2014 and was elected as Governor, defeating Democrat Martha Coakley. He was re-elected in 2018, defeating Democrat Jay Gonzalez.
