The South Korean drama is based on the 2016–2017 webtoon Convenience Store Saet-byul written by Hwalhwasan and illustrated by Geumsagong. Backstreet rookie is an iQIYI original series and is also the first Korean drama that the global channel Lifetime and produced by Taewon Entertainment invested. The story revolves around two lead characters Jung Saet-byul who meets the charming Dae-Hyun. When Dae-Hyun crosses, and the street comes to a group of 3 girls, including Jung Seat-Byul, who asks him to bring them a pack of Cigarettes from the nearby convenience store, he gets them a box of candies instead. This charms Jung Seat-Byul and she kisses him, and he gives her his number, but she never calls him.

A few years later, Dae-Hyun is worming in a store, and he puts a sign that reads part-time workers needed, and Jung Seat-Byul reads it and applies for the job. Later what happens in their story is a beautiful description of love, struggles, and hardships that they face.
