In his remarks at the White House, Biden stated, “The former president has set a dangerous, and shockingly, frankly un-American signal to the world.”

Over the weekend, Trump declared that a NATO member who did not provide sufficient defense funding to the alliance would not be protected by the United States.

At a Conway, South Carolina, campaign event, Trump stated, “You don’t pay your bills, you get no protection. It’s very simple,”

He added, “Hundreds of billions of dollars came into NATO, and that’s why they have money.”

Trump’s comments are consistent with his long-standing skepticism of the United States‘ security role for other countries. On the other hand, Joe Biden states that NATO countries have a “sacred commitment.”

Biden said, “When America gives its word, it means something. When we make a commitment, we keep it. And NATO’s a sacred commitment. Donald Trump looks at this as if it’s a burden,”

Biden also claimed that Trump sent “an invitation to Putin,” referring to the Russian President who had invaded Ukraine.

Biden emphasized, “The whole world heard it. The worst thing is, he means it,”

He added, “No other president in our history has ever bowed down to a Russian dictator. Let me say this as clearly as I can: I never will. For God’s sake, it’s dumb, it’s shameful, it’s dangerous.”

Biden made the remarks during a speech in which he urged the House to take action on the $95 billion foreign aid measure that the Senate had passed on Tuesday morning “immediately.”

Meanwhile, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson strongly indicated that he might not bring the Senate bill to the floor for discussion or a vote. Biden stated, “I urge Speaker Johnson to bring it to the floor immediately, immediately,”

He added, “There’s no question that if the Senate bill was put on the floor in the House of Representatives, it would pass. It would pass. And the speaker knows that.”

On Monday, Trump was seen again restating his warning to NATO in a social media post. He wrote: “YOU MUST PAY,”

“When I told the 20 Countries that weren’t paying their fair share that they had to PAY UP, and said without doing that you will not have U.S. Military Protection, the money came rolling in,”

Trump’s remarks about NATO have been backed by several of his closest allies like Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., who told ABC News on Monday that he has full support in his efforts to persuade NATO members to increase their contributions to defense spending.

Sen. Roger Marshall, a Republican from Kansas, stated that those offended by what Trump said should “get over it.”
