Discoveries made by Morgan Vague

PET, or polyethylene terephthalate, is a common plastic. It is found in bottles, clothing, and food packaging. It takes hundreds of years for plastics of this type to decompose and damage the environment. Plastic waste statistics demonstrate that we have a severe problem that needs to be addressed immediately. Having learned about bacterial metabolism, Ms. Vague decided to investigate whether microbes could degrade plastic.

Though she claims her discovery can help the world in its struggle against plastic trash, she added that there is still a long way to go before microbes can eat plastic at a rate that will be useful for disposing of plastic. There is a silver lining to the massive plastic problem we all face as a result of this discovery. A growing number of people are becoming aware of the problem. Although it is not the only solution, this plastic-eating bacteria can still be a part of the solution.
