Dr. Yan who is specializing virology and immunology at the Hong Kong Public Health School, also claimed that the Chinese government learned about the virus before officially claiming it and they were aware of the human to human transmission as well, however, didn’t report it timely.

Dr. Yan was one of the first scientists who were studying the COVID-19 virus at the end of December 2019. She pointed on the series of strange virus-like SARS in the country.
She also told Fox News that while the Chinese government ignored their research, it also didn’t allow the experts from Hong Kong to conduct research in China. She contacted her friends to get more information in this regard. One of her friends who is a scientist at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in China said that she had first-hand information regarding the cases of COVID-19 in Wuhan.

Her friend confirmed the human to human transmission of the virus on December 31, 2019, which was proven as the same day saw 27 cases of the virus in Wuhan. On informing this to her senior, she was asked to continue with the research and no steps were taken to inform or resolve it.
Later on January 9, WHO officially announced that the Chinese officials have reported that the virus can cause serious problems in some cases and is not transmitted from person to person. After this incident, all the researchers especially in Wuhan, stopped speaking about the virus openly as they earlier used to and also warned Yan not to ask more details.

Dr. Li-Meng Yan also alleged that Professor Malik Peiris, co-director of a WHO-affiliated laboratory didn’t act despite knowing about the spreading disease. Though Yan was disappointed, however, she knew about the corruption between such international organizations like WHO, the Chinese government, etc.

Dr. Yan received her MD degree from XiangYa Medical College of Central South University, and her Ph.D. from Southern Medical University, China. The study of a universal influenza vaccine, cross-reactive antibodies, and cellular immunology was included in her research. At the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, she was research in virology and immunology at the Hong Kong School of Public Health, Hong Kong University.
