The Zero actress marked her debut in the industry with Boom in 1999 which was a complete disaster, however, today she is listed among the top paid actress of the industry. As the Bharat actress is turning 37 today, let’s sneak peek into her journey and evolution over the years.

When Katrina started in 1999 she really didn’t have much except her looks. She started her career as a model in London in the late ’90s. During one of her assignments, she was noticed by Kaizad Gustad who decided to cast her for Boom.

She was universally panned after the release of the movie as neither she was aware of Indian audiences’ preferences no she knew to speak Hindi well. Un affected, the actress bagged a Telugu movie Malliswari and a short role in Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar. While her looks attracted everyone, her limitations were the obstacles for the producers to cast her in their films.

Later around 2005-06, the actress started working with the superstars like Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar and these two associations played a key role in boosting her career and made her a successful entertainer on whom the producers can count on. She did Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya with Salman which let the audience notice her presence on the screen which was charming and cheerful equally.

While she still didn’t have good command on Hindi so it was taker care by dubbing. She did her first film with Akshay Kumar – Humko Deewana Kar Gaye in 2006 which was a hit with the pair being loved by the audience. The duo then was paired in a string of hit films like Namaste London, Welcome (both in 2007), Singh is Kingg (2008), and Tees Maar Khan in (2010). She got the best appreciation for her role in Namaste London.

During this duration, she was heavily criticized for her choices of films which were mainly male-dominated ones and was even termed as “fairly prop” and “unabashed eye sweet”. However, she was ensuring that the producer notices her as a bankable entertainer and she got that which is the main requisite of any outsider of the film industry.

She aced her glamorous avatar with the film Race that was released in 2008 and also attempts to test herself in action thriller apart from comedy, drama, and romance. She did New York in 2009 with Kabir Khan with which she started exploring her hitherto persona while playing the role of the wife of a person whose life changed totally when he was wrongly detained after 9/11. She played the character that went from a carefree college girl to a helpless wife which showed her superb acting skills and she was loved and appreciated for that.

She did different roles in different films like a runaway bride in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, a young woman from a prominent political family pushed into politics in Rajneeti (2010) and a diving instructor with a zest for life in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
