Jun Ji Hyun to Star in “Kingdom” Prequel; Netflix’s Kingdom Season 2 is coming?

Jun Ji Hyun: According to the reports, Jun Ji Hyun is going to be the next female lead of the third installment of Netflix’s hit Korean series ‘Kingdom’. As per reports that surfaced on July 20, the discussion is going on between the actress and makers to cast her as the lead actress in the forthcoming season of zombie-themed series. It is also being buzzed that the new season will be a prequel instead of a sequel of the Kingdom.

Jun Ji Hyun has surprised the viewers with her riveting appearance at the end of the second season, though it was a short cameo, however, the viewers are excited to see her as the main lead in the third season.

The news came into the spotlight when Munhwa Ilbo reported that Kingdom series is going to launch a prequel to the series with Jun Ji Hyun as the lead actress as she was there at the finale of the second season. As per the sources, the third part will revolve around Ah Shin, character to be played by Jun Ji Hyun, and will depict the story of her journey to become a warrior.

The sources further revealed that the prequel is planned as it was difficult to start shooting for the third season with the same lead actors so early due to scheduling conflicts. Hence the story continuation will take 2-3 years tentatively. Hence, the prequel will be there featuring Jun Ji Hyun along with a new star cast in the majority.

Meanwhile, a report from Star News has also claimed that the prequel starring Jun Ji Hyun is going to be a 70-minute short film which is under the last phase of discussion with the shooting to begin around October 2020 tentatively.

After so many reports and buzzes surfacing around, Netflix has finally responded to them. A Netflix source said that there haven’t been any plans made regarding the future of the Kingdom and they can’t confirm anything right now regarding the plot, lead actors, director, screenwriter, etc. The source further added that as of now it hasn’t yet been decided that if any prequel will be there or not.
