Netflix India Announces 17 Movies, & Web Series

Netflix India announced today, the 17 upcoming titles, including six new films and two new series, which will be released on the OTT platform in upcoming months. The line-up announced by Netflix contains both Netflix originals as well as direct premieres. All the titles are in Hindi only.

Among the list of the films, there is a comedy-drama Ludo starring Abhishek Bachchan, Rajkummar Rao, Aditya Roy Kapur, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, and Pankaj Tripathi; drama Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare featuring Konkona Sen Sharma and Bhumi Pednekar; drama Torbaaz starring Sanjay Dutt; crime thriller Raat Akeli Hai starring Radhika Apte and Nawazuddin Siddiqui; romantic-comedy Ginny Weds Sunny featuring Yami Gautam and Vikrant Massey and Geetanjali Rao’s animated Bombay Rose.

The series include Mira Nair’s A Suitable Boy featuring Tabu and Ishaan Khatter and young adult romance Mismatched with Prajakta Koli and Rohit Saraf.

Apart from these, the list includes the upcoming films that have already been announced for direct to web release on the OTT platform like Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (starring Janhvi Kapoor, releasing on August 12); Tribhanga – Tedhi Medhi Crazy (starring Kajol, Tanvi Azmi, and Mithila Palkar); Kaali Khuhi (starring Shabana Azmi, Satyadeep Mishra, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Riva Arora); Serious Men (starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Nassar, Shweta Basu Prasad); Class Of ’83 (featuring Bobby Deol) and AK vs AK (starring Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap).

Talking about the series included in the list are Masaba Masaba (starring Masaba Gupta and Neena Gupta); Bombay Begums (starring Pooja Bhatt, Amruta Subhash, Shahana Goswami, Plabita Borthakur and Aadhya Anand) and Bhaag Beanie Bhaag (earlier titled Messy, starring Swara Bhasker, Ravi Patel, Dolly Singh, and Varun Thakur).

With such a long list of films and series, Netflix is definitely going to establish itself in the regional content like its competitors such as Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar have been doing on their respective OTT platforms. This year, the global pandemic due to coronavirus has led the whole world to go under shutdown, and with the situation still not getting better, many filmmakers have decided to release their film digitally on different online streaming OTT platforms. There is a competition going on between the various OTT platforms to attract more and more users towards them.

Monika Shergill, VP-Content, Netflix India said that the list has been consolidated in such a way that understands the mood and needs of its users, and thus it has stories of various formats and genres like thriller, comedy, romance, etc. She also said that they are proud that they are able to bring such diversity for its users created by both emerging and acclaimed producers and story writers. She further added that they are committed to bringing the best from around the world for its users to discover and love Netflix every day.
