The story begins from the year 1985 in Los Angeles, where Ruth Wilder, who is a struggling actress, auditions along with other women in a professional wrestling promotion called the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW). Ruth discovers that Sylvia had employed her former best friend, who is a retired soap opera actress Debbie Eagan as a lead in this show. The tensions between the two women began when Ruth had an affair with Debbie's husband, Mark, who she later divorced, but ever since then, there has been a rift between the two friends.
