Sea Shepherd And Seal Defenders Take To The Streets

In protest against the killing of seals in Canada, seal defenders will take to the streets all around the world on March 15th, the traditional start date of the Canadian seal slaughter. To protest against the annual slaughter of baby seals on the Eastern Coast of Canada, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is organizing an International Day of Action for the Seals.

An anti-marine protest will take place at the Canadian Consulate in Los Angeles this Wednesday, led by Captain Paul Watson. In addition to recent footage of the hunt, Sea Shepherd’s ship and crew in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, interviews and sound bites from Captain Watson, and historical footage of Sea Shepherd’s efforts to save seals, a video highlights reel will be available at the LA Protest.

A protest against this issue will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, with the Farley Mowat, Sea Shepherd’s flagship ship, led by Hollywood actor Rutger Hauer. Mr. Hauer is currently directing a movie in South Africa and a member of the Sea Shepherd Advisory Board. [Pictures of Mr. Hauer and crew available upon request.]

Demonstrations are planned in many countries, including Canada and the United States, Australia, South Africa, Croatia, Hungary, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Russia.

March 15th is the day for international voices to stand together and call on Canada to end the annual slaughter of hundreds of thousands of seal pups. As a result of late-forming ice, Canada has not yet announced the start date or the quota for the seal hunt. During the past three years, Canada has killed over one million seals.

A boycott of Canadian seafood is being promoted by Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in the media, in court, on the ice, in the streets, and in the streets.

As Sea Shepherd Conservation Society Founder and President, Captain Paul Watson said, “This movement is growing.” Already, Canada has suffered more losses in seafood sales than it makes from sealing. Governments and industries can both understand that. We will continue to lose more than we make until the slaughter of seal pups ceases.”
