Shakuntala Devi Release Date: Earlier in the month of July 2020, Amazon prime announced the global premiere of the much-awaited Vidya Balan starrer ‘Shakuntala Devi’ exclusively on the online video streaming service. The announcement regarding the premiere of the film was done by a video in which Vidya is asking the viewers to solve different challenging problems of Mathematics.

At the end of the video, the national award winner actress can be seen answering the questions as ‘31072020’ while announcing the release of the movie on July 31, 2020. Shakuntala Devi is going to be the second big release after Amitabh and Ayushmann starrer Gulabo Sitabo that was premiered in the month of June on Amazon Prime.

The movies are releasing on OTT platforms as the multiplexes and theatre chains in the country are shut due to the lockdown imposed by the Government to combat the novel coronavirus, leaving direct-to-web release as the only option with the filmmakers.

The film is a biopic of Shakuntala Devi and will let you know her story and achievements, with Vidya playing the title role. Shakuntala Devi was a well-known mathematician and also once known as human-computer due to which she made it to the Guinness Book of World Records for her mental calculations.

Talking about the character of Shakuntala Devi, Vidya has said to the media that the character has fascinated her as one can’t think of a person who is genius in Maths and simultaneously be funny as well. She was someone who had a strong voice and embraced her individuality.

As the movie is all set to release by the month-end i.e. on July 31, 2020, the trailer should have been released according to the earlier schedule of releasing the trailer a month in advance. However, now the trailer release has been shortened to 15 days and it is all set to release on July 15, 2020, i.e. tomorrow. With the teaser, we are already excited to see Vidya playing the role and now the trailer will definitely be going to raise the excitement bar of the audience, especially the fans of Vidya Balan.

The same has been confirmed by Taran Adarsh via a tweet on his Twitter handle. The biopic has been directed by Anu Menon and produced by Sony Pictures Networks Productions and Vikram Malhotra (Abundantia Entertainment). The screenplay is written by Anu Menon and Nayanika Mahtani while Ishita Moitra has written the dialogues.

Apart from Vidya, the movie also stars Sanya Malhotra essaying the role of Shakuntala Devi’s daughter who shares a complicated but extraordinary relationship. The movie also sees Jisshu Sengupta and Amit Sadh in pivotal roles.
