T-Mobile Tops Ookla’s Latest Speedtest Q2 2023 Report

T-Mobile ranks first in the new network and 5G performance report by Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index Market Analysis United States Q2 2023.

According to the report, T-Mobile remains unbeatable even among the country’s top networks in overall network performance and its 5G network reliability.

In response to the announcement of the report results, T-Mobile’s technology President, Ulf Ewaldsson, said, “The network we have built stands as a testament to T-Mobile’s unwavering dedication to our goal of providing customers with the best experience possible. And once again, the reports from Ookla continue to prove exactly that.”

T-Mobile listed the awards it has won in Ookla’s Speedtest report. These include:

Overall Network Performance for the following:

  • Best mobile video experience
  • Fastest mobile network (median download speeds more than 2x faster than Verizon and AT&T)
  • Lowest latency
  • Most consistent network speeds

5G Network Performance for the following:

  • Best 5G video score
  • Fastest 5G performance (median download speeds rivaling fixed broadband)
  • Lowest 5G latency
  • Undefeated for 5G network consistency

According to the latest Ookla Speedtest data report, T-Mobile remains at the top in every 5G category. The network achieved a median 5G download speed of 220.00 Mbps during the second quarter of 2023.

Verizon Wireless maintained a second position with a slight increase to 133.50 Mbps, while AT&T remained third with a speed of 86.01 Mbps.

Again, the report states that T-Mobile had the lowest median 5G multi-server latency in Q2 2023. However, Ookla revealed latency was the tough race between the top carriers. T-Mobile customers experienced a median latency of 51 ms, and Verizon users experienced 53 ms, whereas AT&T stayed behind at 62 ms.

Regarding 5G consistency, Ookla’s report recorded no quarterly statistical winner. T-Mobile scored a 75.9%, Verizon scored a 75.1%, and AT&T was at 66.4 % in this category.

But T-Mobile emerged ahead of its competitors in its Q2 video score, recording 78.70. Verizon Wireless reported a 5G Video score of 77.39, and AT&T came up with a score of 70.40, as per Ookla’s tests.

Ookla also tested the carrier’s performance when not connected to 5G. Here also, T-Mobile surpassed other carriers, as the report says that T-Mobile was the fastest top mobile operator in the U.S., with a median download speed of 164.76 Mbps on modern chipsets.

However, all three major carriers saw a slight decline in download speed compared to the previous quarter. T-Mobile had a median download speed of 165.22 Mbps during Q1 2023. In comparison, Verizon and AT&T remained far behind, with a median download speed of 72.61 and 66.16, respectively.
