The current and 83rd Governor of Georgia, Brian Porter Kemp, was born on November 2, 1963. Along with being the Governor, Kemp is also a businessman. Kemp also served as a member of the Georgia state Senate and Secretary of State of Georgia.
Kemp is a Republican Party member but has faced Donald Trump’s criticism. Donald Trump criticized Kemp over a state law that required him to certify the US Presidential elections.

Kemp got married to Marty Argo on January 8, 1994. Marty Argo is the daughter of Bob Argo, who is a member of the Georgia House of Representatives.
Both are parents to three daughters. Kemp failed to repay a business loan of $500,000. He was sued for the same in May 2018. Before he became the Governor of Georgia, both parties settled the case mutually.

Kemp graduated from Clarke Central High School in 1983. Earlier, he studied at a private academy called Athens Academy till ninth grade. Kemp was transferred to play football for Billy Henderson.
Kemp completed his degree from the University of Georgia with an Agriculture Major.

Sonny Perdue appointed Kemp to Georgia Secretary of State in 2010. He got his full term as Georgia Secretary of State by defeating Georganna Sinkfield. Kemp was reelected after four years.
In March 2017, Kemp announced his candidacy for the gubernatorial election of 2018.
Later in 2018, Kemp won the gubernatorial election, due to which he resigned from the office of Secretary of the State. Kemp faced a runoff election as he came at the top two positions with Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle.
Kemp defeated Cagle in the runoff with a significant margin. For the general election, Kemp ran against Stacy Abrams. Kemp canceled his debate with Stacy Abrams just a week before the elections. This was done so that he could attend one of Trump’s rallies.
It was claimed that Kemp and his successor Brad Raffensperger suppressed voters during the 2018 elections. On this, Elijah Cummings said, “I want to be able to bring people in, like the new governor-to-be of Georgia, to explain … to us why is it fair for wanting to be secretary of state and be running (for governor).”
Kemp as the Governor
On January 14, 2019, Brian Kemp was inaugurated as the Governor of Georgia. After this, Kemp signed a strict abortion law which was also very controversial. This law said that the fetus could not be killed once the child’s heartbeat was detected.
This law was declared void due to its complications. Kemp is again running for the Governor in Georgia 2022 election. He is running against the Trump-backed David Perdue.
While Trump endorsed Perdue for the elections, he also said, “Kemp has been a very weak Governor — the liberals and RINOs have run all over him on Election integrity and more. Most importantly, he can’t win because the MAGA base — which is enormous — will never vote for him,”
