In the weeks before the fighting between Indian and Pakistani troops started in 1999 in the Kargil sector, General Pervez Musharraf crossed the Line of Control with a helicopter and spent the night at a location of about 11 km inside the Indian territory. Musharraf was accompanied by Brigadier Masood Aslam, the then commander of the 80 Brigade. Both had spent the night at a place called Zakaria Mustakar.
According to the information, Pakistan had tested nuclear weapons in 1998. Many say that the Kargil fight was more dangerous than expected. Considering the situation, Musharraf had prepared to use even a nuclear weapon. The Pakistani Army was in the process of executing the Kargil war since 1998. The height of Kargil is 16000 to 18000 feet above sea level. In such a situation, planes have to fly at an altitude of about 20,000 feet. At such altitudes, the air density is less than 30%. In these circumstances, the pilot can suffocate inside the aircraft itself, and the plane may crash.
In the Kargil war fought in 1999 between India and Pakistan, 2,50,000 shells and rockets were fired from artillery. More than 300 cannons, mortars, and rocket launchers fired around 5,000 bombs daily. During the critical 17 days of the battle, on average, one round was fired from every artillery battery every minute. This was the first such battle after World War II, in which one country bombed the enemy’s Army so much.
