Louis DeJoy is the 75th Postmaster General of the United States and the Chief Executive Officer of the world’s largest postal organization. He has assumed his position on June 15. However, after making the changes at the United States Postal Service after joining, he has drawn stinging criticism.
The changes include eliminating employee overtime, removing mail-sorting machines from postal facilities around the country, and reorganizing or eliminating Postal Service leadership.
The changes led to a slow down of mail service in some areas which ignited the concern of several regarding the management of mailed ballots expected during the election scheduled in November.
On the contrary, DeJoy has said that the changes will help in making the Postal Service financially stable. The Postal Service has faced the economic and financial crisis for years which got worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic.

DeJoy is a member of the Republican Party and among the five postmasters general joining the post from the private sector since 1971. It is the same year when the Post Office was a cabinet department and reorganized as the Postal Service, an independent federal agency.

He is married to Aldona Wos who is a former physician. She is a Polish-American whose family immigrated to the United States. She has held several positions including ambassador to Estonia during the George W. Bush administration.
She was also the head of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services from 2012 until 2015. Currently, she is vice-chair of the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships. She has also been nominated to be ambassador to Canada by Mr. Trump.
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy Career
As per his initial plan, he wanted to be a certified public accountant. However, he ended up taking over his father’s failing trucking business on Long Island.
He began the company in the 1980s with just 10 employees and made New Breed Logistics which is a national logistics and supply-chain services provider based in North Carolina. The company had contracts with Boeing, Verizon and the Postal Service, and others.
The company had approximately 7,000 employees by 2014. DeJoy sold it for $615 million to XPO Logistics in 2014. He served as CEO of XPO Logistics until December 2015. Dejoy later joined the company’s board of directors and held the position until 2018.
He started LDJ Global Strategies in the same year which is a real estate, investment, and consulting company. Dejoy and his wife Aldona Wos and they both have invested in several companies. He has also been a major financial supporter of the Republican Party.
Prior to becoming a postmaster general, he was a deputy national fund-raising chairman for the G.O.P. Since 2006, he also hosted several events and fund-raisers for Republican presidential candidates and presidents.
