The Reserve bank of India, today, approved Jagdishan’s appointment as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of HDFC Bank for three years.

Apart from Sashidhar Jagdishan, Kaizad Bharucha, head of HDFC’s wholesale banking division, Sunil Garg of Citibank along with other candidates were also in the race to be the next head of India’s largest private-sector lender. He is going to take charge as MD and CEO of HDFC Bank on October 27, the next day of Aditya Puri’s retirement.

Sashidhar Jagdishan Akka Sashi is a graduate in Science with a specialization in physics. He is also a chartered accountant. He has completed his masters in the economics of money, banking & finance from the University of Sheffield, UK.

Sashidhar Jagdishan’s Career

Sashidhar Jagdishan joined HDFC Bank as a manager in the finance function in the year 1996. After 3 years in 1999, he became the Business Head- Finance. In 2008, he was appointed as Chief Financial Officer. Currently, he is the Additional Director and Head of Finance, HR.

Within a span of over 29 years of experience, he has served at various positions including the Group Head of Finance, Human Resources, Legal & Secretarial, Administration, Infrastructure, Corporate Communications, Corporate Social Responsibility, and the Strategic Change Agent of the Bank.

Before joining the bank, he was a senior officer in the Country financial control division of Deutsche Bank, AG, Mumbai.

Aditya Puri who has been the head of the bank since 1994 when it was incepted, led it to be the country’s largest and most valuable bank through his strict hold over asset quality.
