Why Does Lionel Messi Wants To leave Barcelona? Reasons & World Record

There is no doubt that Lionel Messi has been one of the greatest players in football history. He has recently informed Barcelona that he requests to leave the club with instant effect and to do so by activating a clause in his contract, which would mean the team he has spent his entire career would not receive a cent in compensation. But why did he decide to do so?

Why did Lionel Messi decide to leave Barcelona?

The Argentina international, 33, sent a fax to the club on Tuesday saying he wishes to use a clause in his contract, allowing him to leave for free with immediate effect. The sources in the club have said that Messi, who has spent his entire career at Barca in 2000 as a young player, has a contract with Catalans until 2021, has informed his desire to leave and has dispatched a document immediately. The announcement has come after Barcelona’s 2-8 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinals.

However, Barcelona still believes that the clause has expired, and Messi is contracted to the club until 2021 with a 700m euro buy-out clause. And so the board has decided to meet soon and consider the one thing that could soothe Messi is the resignation of the president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, and early elections. But Messi seems strong-minded to leave the club no matter what happens. There will now be a legal battle between Messi and the club, Messi had points in his contract which allowed him to leave for free, only if he had informed the club of his wish before the 10th of June.

After the news broke, all his fans gathered outside the Nou Camp to protest against the board and came in support of the club’s record goalscorer Lionel Messi. Even his teammates have taken up on Twitter to post about the same, “Respect and admiration, Leo. All my support, friend,” Messi’s former teammate Carles Puyol posted, and to this, his current teammate Luis Suarez replied with two clapping emojis.
