The Texas Representative declared his endorsement to Ron DeSantis for the 2024 White House race.
Here is what you need to learn about the news.
Chip Roy Makes 2024 Endorsement Clear: ‘I Proudly Fight For Ron DeSantis’
The representative indicated his clear support for DeSantis in a post on X (Twitter) that he posted in response to a tweet from DeSantis’s wife, Casey DeSantis.
Roy wrote in his post, “I stand 100% alongside this wonderful woman & her husband, Ron DeSantis because they are truly good & decent people.”
“America needs that again. I proudly fight for Ron DeSantis to be our GOP nominee for Presidential because it’s no time to meet the moment and win again. DeSantis 2024,” he added.
Although Roy formally announced his support for the Florida Governor last weekend, he had offered his enforcement in March, even before DeSantis entered the presidential race.
In an email to supporters then, Roy wrote, “The next United States President must be a vibrant and energetic leader with the faith, vision, and courage to chart a new course.”
“It’s time for younger but proven leadership to offer America eight solid years of transformational change. It’s time for Ron DeSantis to be President of the United States,” added his email.
Roy has been serving in the U.S. House of Representatives for Texas’s 21st congressional district since 2019. Earlier, he worked as chief of staff to Texas Senator Ted Cruz and also as First Assistant Attorney General of Texas.
He supported DeSantis’s rejection of COVID-19 vaccine mandates in Florida and his alleged transferring of migrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard.
DeSantis, who announced his presidential candidacy in May, has received endorsements from several famous political personalities in recent weeks.
A group of 10 South Carolina officials, including state Representative Bill Taylor and Tom Hartnett Jr., and others, have shifted their support to the Florida Governor after their State candidate, Senator Tim Scott, ended his presidential bid last month.
Furthermore, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has long been seen endorsing DeSantis’s presidential bid despite promising to be neutral in the race.
However, Florida Senator Rick Scott has preferred former President Donald Trump over Desantis for the White House race.
The Florida Governor was considered a major rival to Trump when he entered the race in the summer. But, his popularity diminished as the presidential race sped up.
While the former president has maintained a constant lead for the 2024 GOP nomination since he entered the race, according to poll numbers, DeSantis and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley are struggling to gain second spot after Trump.
Although the Florida Governor could never match up with Trump’s polling digits for the upcoming presidential primary, Roy touted DeSantis ahead of Trump last week.
