DeSantis Bashes Trump for Bragging About Debating Hillary Clinton

On Sunday, Republican 2024 Presidential candidate and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis criticized former President and other Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump for comparing his debate with Hillary Clinton in 2016 to that of soldiers fighting on the battlefield.

DeSantis wrote on X (Twitter), “Trump denigrates military service by claiming it is ‘braver’ that he debated Hillary Clinton than what soldiers endure on the battlefield.”

The criticism came after Trump discussed his debate with Hillary Clinton, a former First Lady and a Democrat nominee in the 2016 presidential election, while speaking at the New York Young Republican Club’s annual gala Saturday night.

At the event, the former President claimed his decision to debate Clinton was braver than a soldier fighting in a war.

The debate took place after the release of Trump’s video clip in 2016 in which he made vulgar statements about women.

Recalling how a general praised his decision, Trump said in his speech, “But I went onto that stage just a few days later. And a general, who’s a fantastic general, actually, said to me, ‘Sir, I’ve been on the battlefield.

“Men have gone down on my left and on my right. I stood on hills with soldiers who were killed.”

“But I believe the bravest thing I’ve ever seen was the night you went onto that stage with Hillary Clinton after what happened.'” The former President has not mentioned the name of a general.

In the same post on Sunday, he called the former President a coward for choosing to skip the GOP debate and instead appear in other shows and interviews.

DeSantis wrote, “Debating isn’t brave. It’s the bare minimum any candidate should do. Hiding from debates, on the other hand, is an example of cowardice.”
