The 2022 Georgia gubernatorial elections are about to choose the next Governor of Georgia. The currently serving Governor, a Republican Party member, Brian Kemp is also up for reelections.
This happened in the heat that Kemp did not support Trump’s claim about US Presidential elections 2020. Trump and his supporters are alleging that the 2020 Presidential elections were stolen.
All the Republicans who did not support Donald Trump in this lie were called RINOs.
Candidates for 2022 Georgia gubernatorial elections
In the Republican Primary faceoff, the candidates who have declared their candidacy are:
Catherine Davis: Catherine Davis announced her bid for Georgia’s governor last month.
Her platform surrounds election integrity, protecting infant life in the womb, and parents’ right to select a school they feel will best provide the education they seek for their children, according to a news release. Davis is one of the only female challengers in the Republican primary, alongside Taylor.
Jonathan Garcia: claimed to be an activist.
Vernon Jones: He announced his desire to challenge Brian Kemp in the Republican primary. Jones previously served as a member of the US House of Representatives.
Jones, who earlier was a democrat turned into a Republican after endorsing Trump for reelection in 2020.
Brian Kemp: Kemp is the current governor of Georgia. He is seeking reelection and is eligible for a second term in office. Kemp also served as the Secretary of State of Georgia.
David Perdue: Perdue served as a US Senator from Georgia.
Kandiss Taylor: educating and counseling students for 17 years. Taylor was also a candidate for the 2020 United States Senate elections.
Democratic Primary Candidates
As of now, Stacey Abrams of the Democratic Party announced her faceoff with Brian Kemp. Earlier in the 2018 general election, Brian defeated Abrams and became the Governor of Georgia. Abrams served as the minority leader of the Georgia House of Representatives. She also is the founder of Fair Fight Action.
John Barrow, Van R. Johnson, Mike Thurmond are also potential candidates for Republican Primary.
America’s largest resource for women in politics, Emily’s list recently endorsed Stacey Abrams.
It is all praises for Abrams, saying, “There’s no question about it: Stacey Abrams is the strong leader Georgians deserve as governor. Her record speaks for itself. She strove for increased access to affordable quality health care for all Georgians, championed successful legislation serving more than 100,000 children in Georgia raised by grandparents and other relatives instead of foster care, and traveled and held town halls across the state to listen to the working families she serves. Stacey knows the people of Georgia because she has fought tirelessly for them for years – and we know as governor, she will always put them first.”
Also, Donald Trump while endorsing Perdue, kind of endorsed Stacey as he said, “Having her, I think, might be better than having your existing governor if you want to know what I think,” “Stacey, would you like to take his place? It’s OK with me.”
This clearly shows Trump’s disappointment with “RINO” (as called by Trump), Kemp.
Later, Trump also endorsed the now Republican David Perdue. He lashed out at Kemp while making a supportive statement for Perdue. Trump wrote, “Trump supporters will turn out to vote for these great leaders in big numbers. David Perdue has my Complete and Total Endorsement. He will not let you down!”
Incumbent Governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp gained endorsement from the members of the Georgia General Assembly.
