John Fetterman Has Blunt Message for Democrats About 2024 Election

John Fetterman, a fervent backer of President Joe Biden’s 2024 campaign, provided a blunt message to his Democratic colleagues on next year’s presidential election.

Fetterman attacked Biden’s primary opponents while comparing Democratic attacks on the president being more damaging than cutting out a check to former President Donald Trump.

The senator made these remarks in response to Representative Dean Phillips’ campaign’s growing criticism of Biden. Fetterman said on Tuesday to CNN, “Other Democrats that are now vocalizing and saying these incredibly unhelpful things—why? What’s your goal? Are you trying to diminish the president? Are you trying to strengthen Trump?”

He added, “It’s much easier and less effort just to write a check for Trump.”

In recent weeks, Phillips has transformed his White House campaign into an aggressive campaign that has directly attacked Biden’s mental fitness and labeled the president as a threat to democracy.

The change was apparent when it was revealed that Rep. Phillips’ name would not be included in the Democratic presidential primary ballot in Florida or North Carolina. The congressman has denounced these exclusions as “undemocratic manipulation” and drawn parallels between them and the political conflict in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Phillips said to reporters last week in New Hampshire, “If [Biden] wasn’t [a threat to democracy], he would say something about what happened in Florida.”

He added, “How can you, the president of the United States, condemn the former president who was a dangerous man, and do what he did in New Hampshire and allow what’s happening in Florida?”.

Biden’s decision to skip out on January 23’s first-in-the-nation primary in New Hampshire was the subject of Phillips’ comment,

Phillips had adopted a different stance at a campaign briefing less than three months prior, claiming, “I’m here to celebrate the president. I do not have anything but admiration for the president.”

Fetterman told The Washington Post that Phillips’ recent remarks about the president were “laughable” and that the Minnesota Democrat’s candidature is a “dream for Trump.”

In the months leading up to the 2024 election, Fetterman has criticized Phillips and other Democrats. He also criticized California Gov. Gavin Newsom last month for what he assumed to be an anti-Biden campaign.

Fetterman also mentioned that two Democrats, besides Biden, are “running for president right now.”

He added, “One is a congressman from Minnesota, the other is the governor of California, but only one has the guts to announce it,” Fetterman stated this to the gathering at an Iowa Democratic Party dinner.
