Born on May 12, 1820, in Florence, Italy, Florence Nightingale is known as the ‘angel‘ who saved the lives of many peoples, and she was more injured than a nurse. 

She had saved thousands of lives injured in the war. Nightingale had a hobby since childhood to serve the people, but in the year 1844, she ultimately decided that she had to go into the nursing profession and help the people.

It is said that when Florence Nightingale told her parents that she wanted to go to Salisbury, England, for nursing training, she was flatly refused because she wanted her daughter to get married and take her home, Settle. 

According to our report, Nightingale had a love affair with a young man, but in 1849 he refused to marry her and said that something else was written about his fate. 

Only a year after this, when the family realized that Nightingale would not marry, they gave up and allowed her to go to Germany to take nursing training.

Florence’s most significant contribution was in the Crimea War when in 1854, she was sent to Turkey to serve the wounded with 38 nurses.  She was awarded the title of “The Lady with the Lamp” for her assistance work done at the same time.  In fact, she also used to go to assist injured patients with torches in her hands at night.

Florence was awarded the ‘Order of Merit‘ by the British government. She was the first woman to receive this honor. Florence Nightingale was so busy serving people that she didn’t even know her age. 

However, she died at the age of 90 in 1910 after a long career and a long occupation of service. Every year on May 12, Nightingale’s birthday is celebrated as International Nurses Day. 

Although the proposal to celebrate Nurses Day was first proposed in 1953, the first time it was celebrated was in 1965. After this, it was announced in the year 1974 that Nurses Day would be celebrated on May 12 every year. Just then, it started.
