She later served as the liaison to the President’s Information Technology Advisory Committee, focusing on issues related to bridging the digital divide, technology, and poverty.

Shapiro was born Lori Ferrara and grew up in Yardley, Pennsylvania, and Newtown, Pennsylvania. Her father was an electrical engineer, her mother was an office manager, and her stepfather was a veterinarian. She attended Akiba Hebrew Academy (now known as Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy), where she played on the softball team and graduated as a good student who cared about social justice and the environment.

After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from Colgate University, Shapiro wanted to pursue a career in government but decided to become a full-time mother to support her husband’s political career. During her husband’s 2022 gubernatorial campaign, she took a limited role due to the importance of providing stability for their children at home. However, she joined her husband in campaign events during the final weeks.
