Trump Sues New York Attorney General in Quest to Halt Investigation

The Attorney General of New York, Letitia James’ office, is seeking an investigation on Trump Organization. Trump’s organization is claimed to commit fraud while reporting the value of its properties to banks and tax authorities.

On this, Letitia James asked for the deposition of the former US President on January 7th, 2022. Her office is also working with Manhattan District Attorney on another criminal fraud case against Trump Organization.

Donald Trump and his company filed a federal lawsuit against the Attorney General in response to this. This was attempted to block her from carrying on the investigation. The Trump Organization misrepresented values to gain favorable loans and insurance rates.

This lawsuit was filed two weeks before the deposition date, January 7th. Donald Trump claimed that Letitia James and Vance are investigating him for political reasons.

After this lawsuit, James said, ″The Trump Organization has continually sought to delay our investigation into its business dealings, and now Donald Trump and his namesake company have filed a lawsuit as an attempted collateral attack on that investigation.”

“To be clear, neither Mr. Trump nor the Trump Organization gets to dictate if and where they will answer for their actions,” James added.

She also said, “Our investigation will continue undeterred because no one is above the law, not even someone with the name Trump.”

Trump’s Lawsuit

Trump’s suit is filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York.

The lawsuit says that James’ “mission is guided solely by political animus and a desire to harass, intimidate, and retaliate against a private citizen who she views as a political opponent.”

Trump’s lawsuit regards James’ investigation as an attempt to paint Trump and his business as victims of a “bitter crusade.” The suit is a 30-page complaint that includes evidence on how James has made several criticisms of Trump earlier. It had tweets and other objections, such as the vow when she was elected in 2018. Her vow said, “shin[e] a bright light into every dark corner of [Trump’s] real estate holdings.”

Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba wrote a statement saying, “Letitia James targets President Trump with a callous disregard for the ethical and moral obligations she swore to abide by when she became Attorney General.”

“She has short-changed the state by commencing this partisan investigation and has forever tarnished the sanctity of her office.”

Habba also added, “By filing this lawsuit, we intend to not only hold her accountable for her blatant constitutional violations but to stop her bitter crusade to punish her political opponent in its tracks.”

On this issue, Trump himself said, “Tell Letitia that she is not dealing with the Cuomo brothers, a corrupt Governor in a corrupt state, including your office and others, and Fredo, who did the Governor’s dirty work; for him.”

“Despite many years of investigation that nobody else could have survived even if they did things just slightly wrong, yours is just a continuation of the political Witch Hunt that has gone on against me by the Radical Left Democrats for years; this is not about the delay, this is about our Constitution! You are nothing but a corrupt official doing the dirty work of your party. You should not be in office,” Trump said.
