Truth Social begins process to challenge Netflix

The Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) advertised in the classified advertisements on Wednesday that it was looking for a content buyer and a development manager to help generate programmes for its TMTG+ service.

This follows Trump’s efforts to establish a competing social media platform to Facebook and Twitter, which are often regarded as hostile to conservative viewpoints in the United States. In January 2021, Trump was evicted from Twitter and Facebook for allegedly encouraging violence during the disputed vote re-counting process of the presidential election of 2020, and it was then that he began to construct an alternative to the very censorious traditional platforms.

Truth Social, which was recently released in January, has been the most downloaded app on Applestore for several weeks. Trump has begun commenting on the rapidly rising network. Now, reports are circulating that he is launching a streaming site called TMTG+ to compete with Netflix and other streaming services that have a history of producing shows that cater to one side of the cultural divide.

For example, it’s difficult to find a show without homosexuality or LGBTQ themes, while some individuals (conservatives) simply want family-friendly programming.

What’s the streaming platform about?

According to the advertisement, TMTG+ will offer a diverse choice of programmes, some original and some purchased, similar to other platforms.

“Trump Media & Technology Group’s streaming video-on-demand service will be a “Big Tent” platform offering broad-based entertainment founded in free speech,” according to the press release. “In addition to the social media platform Truth Social, our SVOD platform TMTG+ will be the home for a wide variety of non-scripted, scripted, and original content.”

The content development manager will be in charge of script creation, casting, and pilot production.

“The role will generate and develop internal concepts for original unscripted content, short-form series episodes and specials,” says the ad. “Our ideal candidate will be able to establish priorities and multi-task efficiently within a fast-paced environment while meeting strict deadlines.”

Little else is known about the platform’s plans, such as when it will launch or what titles will be available. More information on the company’s plans to market itself as a conservative-friendly service may be found on its website.

“TMTG+ is an on-demand streaming service that will provide news, big-tent entertainment, exciting documentaries, sports programming, and more,” the company says. “The American public is seeking “non-woke” entertainment, and TMTG+ will provide content for all to enjoy.”

This is one of a few initiatives aimed at telling tales that aren’t being told by Hollywood, including a media firm called Daily Wire, which has begun producing films, television series, and children’s books that avoid social justice hot topics like gay rights and transgender agendas.
