Born on August 16, 1957, Philip Dunton Murphy, is an American Financier, diplomat, and politician. Murphy also served as the 56th Governor of New Jersey. Under the leadership of the former US president Barack Obama, Murphy also served as the United States Ambassador to Germany.

His wife Tammy Murphy, also started an organization called New Start New Jersey, to make his political appearance more and clearly visible. During his early life, he lived in a middle-class Irish American family. He told the media how his father was a high school dropout who took just any job he could and lived a paycheck to paycheck life.  Murphy’s mother paid more heed to the importance of education, it is then that Philip and his other siblings gained college degrees. Murphy is highly knowledgeable with his Harward University’s AB degree in Economics. He also did an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in the year 1983.

Phil Murphy has been a popular leader and continues to be in the good books of citizens with his brilliant service. His tenure also faced the crucial times of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

His approval rating is commendable with 54% of people liking his work. Also with this survey, it was known that his disapproval rate is 36%. 

Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute, said, “Most people say he’s doing a good job on the issue that they care about the most,” he said. “That’s a pretty good sign for reelection.”

He also went on saying, “If he mishandles the pandemic, something comes down the pike that’s out of his control, or he makes a mistake between now and November, these numbers could obviously shift,” 

Murphy has been handling the pandemic situation very well and has also recently announced vaccines and testing mandates for school personnel. 

Which honors are given to Philip Murphy?

Hamilton College presented Phil Murphy with an Honorary Degree in 2015. Also, Rutgers University presented another honorary degree to Murphy in 2019.

Personal Life

Despite his amazing career and academic front, his personal life was not as smooth. Tammy Snyder too was an employee at Goldman Sachs, where they both first met. Phil shied away from asking Tammy out for 17 years but once he did, they got married within six months. 

Medical History

Philip Murphy underwent surgery for the removal of cancerous tumors from his kidneys. It went well and his recovery was noted shortly after the surgery took place.
