Born on April 1, 1949, in New Britain, Connecticut, Manafort graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1967 and later obtained a degree in business administration from Georgetown University in 1971. He further pursued his studies at Georgetown University Law Center, earning a J.D. in 1974.
During the early 1970s, Manafort embarked on his political journey by contributing to Republican campaigns in Connecticut. His talents and expertise soon led him to Washington, D.C., where he became a prominent Republican lobbyist in the 1980s. Alongside Charles R. Black Jr. and Roger J. Stone, Manafort co-founded the lobbying firm Black, Manafort & Stone in 1980. Peter G. Kelly joined the firm in 1984.
