U.S. President Joe Biden has won the Democratic presidential primary despite facing opposition to his Israel-Hamas policy in the state of Michigan.

Here are the details of the news.

The United States President Joe Biden won Michigan’s Democratic primary election on Tuesday.

The 2024 Michigan Democratic presidential primary was held on February 27, 2024, for the 2024 presidential election.

Although counting the votes is still ongoing, according to media projections, President Biden will win the Michigan primary election with 80.5% of the votes.

Initially, the President faced huge opposition for his handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict in Michigan, an Arab-American constituency.

On Tuesday, Biden critics encouraged Democratic voters to cast their votes as ‘Uncommitted’ in an attempt to protest against Biden’s support for Israel in its conflict with Hamas.

According to the Associated Press news agency, in 25% counted votes, Biden received 80% support while the ‘Uncommitted Votes’ stood at 14.5%.

One of Biden’s protestants who voted ‘Uncommitted’ included Democratic Michigan Representative Rashida Tlaib, a Palestinian American. In a video posted on X, Tlaib said, “President Biden is not hearing us.”

Another Democrat who voted ‘Uncommitted’ on Tuesday is Carol Reynoso, from Dearborn, who voted for Biden in 2020.

In an interview, Carol said, “I think it’s a great opportunity to get the message to the administration that people in Michigan are concerned about what’s going on and that there’s a large group of people that want a cease-fire.”

President Joe Biden announced his candidacy for a second term on April 25, 2023. He defeated Minnesota Representative Dean Phillips in Michigan’s primary election.

As his opponent has failed to gain enough support, the President endeavors to reach the general election, where he is expected to face his 2020 rival, former president Donald Trump.

Michigan is a key battleground state expected to play an important role in the November presidential election. In the 2020 presidential election, Biden won against Trump by 2.8 percentage points in Michigan.

Before the primary election, many high-profile democrats visited Michigan to appeal to voters on behalf of Biden.

They spoke to union, minority, and suburban voters whose support will ensure Biden’s win in the November election. The list also included Vice President Kamala Harris, who discussed abortion rights with the people of Michigan.

Harris said, “The people of Michigan cannot sit back and take comfort without also understanding that elections matter and that there is a full-on, concerted effort to pass a national ban, which would mean the people of Michigan would not be safe.”

However, the President faces many challenges in the 2024 election. His age and health are the biggest concern for people, which makes him a less favorable candidate.

He is the oldest President to serve the office in U.S. history and the oldest to run for a second term. If he wins in 2024, he will be 86 at the end of his tenure.

It remains to see whether President Biden’s determination will let him win the general election and take an oath to the President’s office again in 2024.
