Hunter Biden Accuses Indicted Ex-FBI Informant of Tainting Cases

U.S. President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden’s legal team announced on Tuesday that the case against the President’s son was tainted by remarks made by a former FBI informant accused of lying about a bribery scheme involving the Biden family.

The claims made by the informant, Alexander Smirnov, who is accused of faking a bribery plan involving President Joe Biden, his son, and a Ukrainian energy business, are separate from the gun and tax allegations brought against Hunter Biden.

Hunter Biden became the first child of a sitting president to face criminal charges when he was charged in September on allegations that he had lied about using drugs when he purchased a gun in 2018. In order to purchase a gun in 2018, the President’s son was accused of lying on paperwork regarding his drug use. He has entered a not-guilty plea to the claim.

In December of last year, he was charged once more in California for reportedly failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes. An indictment was filed in the U.S. District Court, Central District of California, which listed three felonies and six misdemeanors related to tax violations.

Alexander Smirnov, 43, a former FBI informant, was accused last week of fabricating information regarding the Bidens’ reported involvement in dealings with the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma Holdings.

Prosecutors have claimed that Smirnov has also communicated with foreign intelligence services, including Russian intelligence organizations.

The FBI informant claims have now put Hunter Biden’s previous plea agreement at risk and resulted in two indictments on gun and tax evasion charges.

Hunter Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, referred to Smirnov’s assertions as “ridiculous” in a court statement on Tuesday, stating that “it now seems clear that the Smirnov allegations infected this case.”

According to the filing, prosecutors went after Smirnov “down his rabbit hole of lies.”

It contended that the reason Hunter Biden’s plea agreement collapsed was because the prosecution at the time was investigating what they now believe to be false allegations of bribery made by the arrested former FBI informant.

Hunter Biden has also requested the dismissal of his California tax case in a different court filing. Republicans have used Hunter Biden’s legal issues as a base and have made the Democratic President’s son a central focus to plot their impeachment investigation against the President.
