Born on July 24, 1956, Charlie Crist is an American attorney and politician. He served as the 44th governor of Florida from 2007 to 2011 and represented Florida’s 13th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2017 to 2022. Crist transitioned from a Republican to an independent in 2010 and joined the Democratic Party in 2012. Originally from Altoona, Pennsylvania, Crist grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida. He graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1974, obtained a political science degree from Florida State University in 1978, and earned his law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1981.

Crist started his career in public service as a prosecutor in the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office from 1982 to 1992. One thousand nine hundred ninety-two, he was elected to the Florida Senate and served until 1998. He ran for the U.S. Senate in 1998 but was unsuccessful. Despite this, his strong performance gained recognition within the Republican Party. Crist was appointed Florida’s Education Commissioner in 2000 and later became Florida’s Attorney General in 2003.
