Liz Cheney is an American lawyer and politician and has been the sole representative for Wyoming in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2017. She held the third-highest position in the House Republican leadership as chair of the House Republican Conference and is also the third female elected to that position after Cathy McMorris and Deborah Pryce.

Liz had deep roots in politics as her parents, Dick Cheney and Lynne Cheney, were part of politics. For those who don’t know, Dick Cheney is a former U.S. vice president.

While her father was running for Congress in Casper, Wyoming, Cheney partially attended her sixth and seventh grades there and later enrolled at McLean High School and graduated in 1984.

Before starting Law school in 1996, Liz found a job at a consulting firm founded by Richard Armitage, Armitage Associates LLP, and between 1989 to 1993; she worked for the United States Agency for International Development.

Liz began working for the State Department five years after graduating from Colorado College and later worked as an attorney at White & Case after earning her law degree.

Liz served as Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of State for Assistance to the former Soviet Union and was a USAID officer in the American embassies in Warsaw and Budapest. She was appointed by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs and began working for the State Department in 2002 as in charge of the Middle East Partnership project.

Cheney resigned from her position in 2003 to work on her father’s 2004 vice presidential reelection campaign, and after being appointed for Near Eastern Affairs and Coordination of Broader Middle East and Northern Africa Initiatives by the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State later that year, she rejoined the State Department.

Liz oversaw the establishment of the Fund of the Future and the Foundation of the Future, two largely independent foundations, and also led the Iran-Syria Policy and Operations Group and supported a draught of a new constitution for Iraq (ISOG).

Liz Cheney joined Fred Thompson’s 2008 presidential campaign as one of three national co-chairs following her tenure at the State Department and later became Mitt Romney’s top foreign policy adviser for his 2008 campaign.

Along with Deborah Burlingame and William Kristol, Liz founded the nonprofit Keep America Safe in October 2009, which aims to inform Americans about important issues relating to national security.

Liz joined Fox News in January 2012, where she served as a guest host on Hannity and Fox News Sunday and announced her intention to run for the United States Senate in Wyoming in 2014, but later she dropped out of the race due to health concerns.

After Cynthia Lummis declared her retirement from the position in February 2016, Liz declared her candidacy for Wyoming’s lone House of Representatives seat and shockingly received more than 60% of the total vote.
