She is the daughter of Clyde Haberman, a long – time journalist for The New York Times and Nancy Haberman, a media communications executive at Rubenstein Associates. She graduated from the Ethical Culture Fieldston School in 1991 and later obtained a bachelor’s degree from Sarah Lawrence College in 1995.

She continued to cover City Hall for three and a half years in the early 2000s while working for the New York Post’s rival newspaper, the New York Daily News. Maggie returned to the Post to cover the U.S. Presidential campaigns in 2008. In 2010, Haberman became a senior reporter when she was hired by Politico. She became a political analyst for CNN in 2014. Haberman acquired limelight for covering former president Trump’s campaign and presidency, often breaking news about his administration.

Haberman earned the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting (shared with colleagues at the Times and The Washington Post), in 2018 for reporting on the Trump administration. 

She won the individual Aldo Beckman Memorial Award from the White House Correspondents’ Association, as well as the Front Page Award for Journalist of the Year from the Newswomen’s Club of New York in the same year.

She is also cited as ‘the highest profile reporter‘ covering Trump’s campaign and presidency.

She has 1.7 million followers on Twitter.
