The 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, will hold a rally in Erie this weekend as he campaigns for the 2024 Republican Presidential nomination.

According to Trump’s campaign website, the rally is scheduled for July 29, 2023, Saturday, at 6 pm at Erie Insurance Arena in downtown Erie. Doors open at 1 pm, and special guest speakers will deliver their remarks at 4 pm before the rally.

Representatives for Erie Insurance Arena and the Erie County Republican Party have not confirmed their presence at the rally.

The former President previously spoke in Erie on October 20, 2020, in his rally at Erie International Airport in Millcreek Township, weeks before the November 3 Presidential primary, while serving as the United States President during his failed bid for reelection against President Joe Biden.

The rally comes a week after a federal judge in Florida set a date for Trump’s trial in his investigation of classified documents.

The United States District Judge Aileen Cannon set May 20, 2024, as the trial date for Trump’s classified document case. The date is a compromise between a request from prosecutors to set the trial date for this December and a bid by Trump’s lawyers to schedule it sometime after the 2024 presidential election.

If the date remains unchanged, it will fall close to a separate New York trial for Trump on several state charges of falsifying business records concerning an alleged hush money payment to an adult star. It means the trial would start after the Republican nominee is clear.

Trump, who is campaigning for the 2024 Republican nomination amid several legal barriers, could face additional trials in the coming year.

This week, the former President said that he had received a letter from a special counsel, Jack Smith, informing him that he was a target of a separate Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation into the efforts to change the results of the 2020 presidential election.
