Last month, the president’s son Joe Biden was scheduled to accept a diversion agreement concerning a felony gun charge and submit a guilty plea to misdemeanor tax charges.

However, the plan encountered a stumbling block during the federal court proceeding, and the Delaware judge ultimately decided against approving the deal.

On Sunday, Abbe Lowell, Biden’s attorney, stated that three possibilities may have gone wrong.

In an appearance with CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Lowell said of the prosecutors, “One, they wrote something and weren’t clear what they meant; two, they knew what they meant and misrepresented it to counsel, or Three, they changed their view as they were standing in court in Delaware.”

Later, Lowell said, “One of the possibilities is that the prosecutor stood up and decided that they didn’t like what people were saying about the deal they approved for a variety of reasons that might be obvious to the viewer.”

Investigations into Hunter Biden’s business practices and personal behavior have lasted for five years. David Weiss, the federal prosecutor who has overseen the probe, received special counsel status on Friday from Attorney General Merrick Garland.

After years of investigation, Lowell stated on Sunday that he does not think fresh evidence would be presented against his client. He also suggested that if Weiss’ conclusions were to alter, it would not be due to the truth but rather political pressure from the right.

Lowell asserted, “I’m confident that if this prosecutor has done what has been done for the last five years, then the only conclusion can be what the conclusion was on July 26th; there’s no new evidence to be found.”

Lowell added, “People should keep in mind that while Mr. Weiss’ title changed last week, he’s the same person he’s been for the last five years.

He’s a Republican U.S. attorney appointed by a Republican president and attorney general who had career prosecutors working this case for five years, looking at every transaction that Hunter was involved in.… if anything changes from his conclusion, which was two tax misdemeanors and a diverted gun charge, the question should be asked, what infected the process that was not the facts in the law?”
