Newt Gingrich: Willis' Indictment of Trump is 'Political Witch Hunt'

Late on Monday night, a grand jury in Georgia charged Trump with attempting to have the 2020 election results overturned.

Newt Gingrich, a former speaker of the House, commented that the indictment of Donald Trump on Monday was hastily brought about at the request of “somebody” in Washington, D.C.

According to Gingrich, the late-night indictment may have resulted from a less than favorable response to U.S. Attorney David Weiss’ Friday appointment to lead a special investigation into Hunter Biden‘s business activities.

On Thursday’s The Charlie Kirk Show episode, Gingrich told his account to political commentator Charlie Kirk. He made sure to emphasize that the information was all “hearsay.”

Newt Gingrich stated, “You couldn’t write a novel in which these things happen. And by the way, these guys are so arrogant that they’re stupid. So Weiss, who is a terrible lawyer who has pathetically mishandled the Hunter Biden case? Suddenly he has been promoted to be the special investigator, elevated, you know, despite everything he’s done wrong already,”

While referring to District Attorney Fani Willis, Gingrich alleged, “The reaction is so bad on Friday that I am told — this is hearsay, but I am told by a reliable source that Friday evening, somebody from Washington called the district attorney in Atlanta and said, ‘You have to indict on Monday. We have to cover up all of the mistakes we just made with Wiess,'”

Gingrich claimed that despite not knowing who made the call, the source he spoke with had “remarkably good sources.”

Krik, while replying, stated, “I totally believe it, though, Because that would explain why they leaked and they messed up on the clerk document, why she was exhausted, and why they had the 11 p.m. press conference, Mr. Speaker.”
