EPA Administrator to Address New Emission Standards at EUEC 2012 on January 30


Assistant Administrator Gina McCarthy leads off outstanding keynote session followed by EUEC’s technical program with 3 of 12 tracks on clean air rules, monitoring and control technologies, and strategies for mercury and air toxics  from January 30 – February 1 in Phoenix.

PHOENIX, AZ – January 12, 2012 –-/WORLD-WIRE/– Gina McCarthy, Assistant Administrator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Air and Radiation, will address about 2,000 delegates at EUEC 2012, the USA’s largest energy, utility and environment conference to be held at the Phoenix Convention Center from January 30 through February 1, 2012.  McCarthy keynote address will include the EPA’s new Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS), the first national standards to regulate power plant emissions of mercury and toxic air pollution.

These new standards,  issued on December 21, 2011, limit mercury, acid gases and other toxic pollution from power plants, including limits for HCL, SO2, PM and HAPs. The rules would affect approximately 1,400 coal-fired and oil-fired power plants and are estimated to cost $10 billion. These rules were issued after 20 years of study and litigation that included participation by experts presenting at the EUEC 2012 and at past EUEC conferences.

The keynote presentation by McCarthy is followed by panelists and experts in EUEC’s technical program with three of 12 tracks – Tracks A, B, and C – in the 600-speaker technical program will provide invaluable information on clean air rules, monitoring and control technologies, and strategies for mercury and air toxics.
