Lonar Lake Turned Red: The Secrets Of Lonar Lake

Lonar Lake Turned Red: Lonar lake in the Buldhana district of the Vidarbha region in Maharashtra is a bizarre mystery of nature on the earth, described in Puranas, Vedas, and legends due to which it remains a puzzle for scientists.

It is said about this vast lake that meteorite bodies had arrived here at a speed of 22 kilometers per second one lakh 70 years ago, due to which a deep crater was formed here.

In the second story, it is said that the volcano erupted here, while the third story is related to the slaughter of a demon killed by Lord Vishnu himself.

Archaeologists say that it is the world’s unique lake, and only three such lakes have been found in the world, including Lonar Lake, Mono Lake in California, and Magadi Lake in Kenya, USA.

The water in these three lakes is saline, and scientists believe that a falling meteorite made all these three pits.

Lonar Lake, located in the country’s less rainy Vidarbha region, is more than half a kilometer deep, with only 30 meters of water.

There is greenery all around the lake, and all kinds of animals are invertebrates. The diameter of this lake is about 1.8 kilometers.

The shore around the lake is wild, and its roundness is about eight kilometers. Scientists have discovered insects of specific species around this lake, which are not unique in India but also in the world.

The miracle of nature is filled in the soil and water of this lake. There is a well near the lake, one part of which is very salty water and half of it is sweet.

Such a unique mystery of nature is hardly anywhere in the world where the water floating on the surface is half fresh and half saline from the same source.

Due to the characteristic of sweet and saline water in the well, people around it are also called ‘Saas Bahu Ka Kuan.’

People have been fascinated by the mystery of the Lonar lake for centuries, and even today, the one who comes to see the lake does not return without being thrilled.

Lonar Lake Turned Red: The result of this response is that in the 10th century, a Shiva temple was built on the saltwater bank of the lake in which 12 Shivling was installed.

Since that time, it is said that devotees worship these lingas installed in the lake as 12 Jyotirlingas. Along with the Shiva temple, there is a temple of Kamalja Mata inside the lake where the Goddess is worshiped.

Near the lake towards Lonar city is the deserted guest house of the Public Work Department.

This guest house was built by the British to see the view of the lake, but the guest house, which was deserted, has now been taken over by the Archaeological Department and has put a sharp wire fence on all the paths leading to the lake.

Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation built some apartments for travelers staying near the lake, which has good food and accommodation.

Shailesh Sardar, an authorized tourist guide from the corporation, says that the Skandha Purana and the Rigveda mention the secret of this lake.

The soil around here is highly ironic, and its land twists on paper placed on top of a piece of magnet. He showed many stones surrounding the lake, which are full of secrets.

There is also a legend about the lake: a demon named Lonasur who was killed by Lord Vishnu himself.

Shailesh says that two other things go about the establishment of this lake. One states that this lake was formed due to volcanic eruption.

The second story is about the meteorite, which says that the meteorite had dropped here, which led to a one and a half kilometer deep hole.

The body as mentioned above is said to have fallen here at a speed of 22 kilometers per second, causing a massive explosion, and here the earth was shaken and felt like a six magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale.

At that time, the temperature of Lonar had significantly risen.

Lonar Lake Turned Red: There is also a mystery about the time when this meteorite fell on the earth. According to one calculation, its time was told 52 thousand years ago, while according to the second calculation, its time has been stated as 5 lakh 70 thousand years.

Only three such lakes have been found in the world, in addition to Lonar Lake, Mono Lake in California, and Magadi Lake in Kenya, USA.

Shailesh said that the water of this lake is highly saline, but the secret is that there is a well whose water is half sweet and half saline.

He told us that the water of the lake is highly saline, and he showed the proof by adding turmeric to its water, which turned the water’s color into entirely red.
