It is a circular cave, which is built in the sea. It has a diameter of 318 meters and a depth of 125 meters.
This sea cave is considered one of the best places in the world for scuba diving. This is the reason that people often come here from all over the world. It is believed that the ‘Great Blue Hole’ was formed in a total of four phases from about one and a half million years ago to 15 thousand years ago.

At that time, the sea level was shallow here, due to which this cave was seen above the sea. Later, when the sea level rose, this cave was also wholly submerged in water. This cave is made of lime, and many species of fish and other marine creatures are found within it.

You will be surprised to know that there are many caves inside the ‘Great Blue Hole.’ French scientist Jacques Costeau is credited with making the ‘Great Blue Hole’ famous all over the world.
He declared the place one of the top five scuba diving spots in the world, revealing its secrets. In the year 1971, he came with his ship to measure the depth of this sea cave. In 2012, Discovery Channel placed ‘Great Blue Hole’ first on the list of ’10 Most Amazing Places on Earth’.
This wonder-filled place is part of the Belize Barrier Reef System, one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is the most significant natural construction of its kind in the world.
